A daily self-care routine is essential to balancing your life.
Self-care is something that gets pushed to the back burner for a lot of people.
It’s one of those things where you know you need to be practicing it but when it comes to implementing it into your daily life, you don’t do it.
I am a big believer that self-care is not something that you do once a week or even once a month but something that you should make a priority in your daily routine.
A lot of people think self-care is only about massages, getting a mani and pedi, or bubble baths but it is so much more than that.
Self-care is about actions we take to develop, maintain, and improve our overall well-being.
A few examples are:
– Eating healthy to nourish your body with the right nutrients
– Getting enough sleep so you are rested
– Meditating and practicing gratitude
– Learning & educating yourself for personal growth
– Visiting dental experts like this dentist in Woodbridge regularly
If you don’t make time for self-care every day you will feel stressed, overwhelmed, and eventually burn out mentally and physically.
If you want to become the best version of yourself then that involves taking care of your mind, body, and soul on a daily basis.
When you take care of yourself, you are able to take care of others, help balance your life, and become the best version of yourself.
Tips to Help You Make Self-Care a Priority in Your Daily Routine
Schedule it and Set a Reminder
Take time every day to schedule self-care into your daily planner and set a reminder.
Whether you schedule it for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or even 1 hour, it doesn’t matter.
What matters is that you block off time and make it non-negotiable with yourself.
If you make it the same time every day it may be easier to remember but sometimes your day may not look the same every day.
When you schedule self-care into your daily activities it eventually becomes a habit.
I recently started scheduling and setting reminders for my meals.
As an entrepreneur, my work tends to get the best of me.
I can sit in front of the computer all day working from morning to night and not move except for bathroom breaks.
There have been many days I was so wrapped up in my work to remember to even eat.
My body started to feel drained and my mind started to get tired easily and I couldn’t concentrate because I wasn’t fueling my body throughout the day with proper nutrition.
So, now I set reminders throughout the day, and not only doesn’t it help me remember to eat but also it gives my mind a break from work.
Plan ahead, schedule your self-care every single day, set reminders, and make a non-negotiable, your body and mind deserve that from you.
Do activities you love
You don’t have to follow the latest self-care trend.
Just because other people are doing it doesn’t mean you have to follow.
If you are doing something you dislike then you won’t commit to it.
The key to sticking to a daily self-care routine is doing activities YOU love.
You can always try experimenting with new things but if it doesn’t make you happy and fulfilled then don’t do it.
So, try a few things and see what works for you and your lifestyle.

Don’t overcomplicate your routine, keep it simple
Don’t think of your self-care as a burden and another thing to do on your to-do list.
Adjust your mindset around it.
Think of it as a necessary part of your daily life. Like brushing your teeth or taking a shower.
Think of it as something your life depends on.
Focus on how your self-care routine makes you feel afterward.
Remember whatever self-care practice you choose it doesn’t necessarily have to cost you money or take up your whole day.
Keep it simple.
Don’t overwhelm yourself.
The whole reason for having a daily self-care routine is to help you recharge, relax, and to take care of your overall well-being.
Don’t be hard on yourself and remain flexible
Some days may seem easier to practice self-care than other days it might seem impossible.
Life happens and things may get in the way.
No two days are the same.
But, if you are committed to implementing your self-care into your daily routine you just have to figure out what works best for you at that moment.
Don’t be hard on yourself.
Create a basic structure but stay flexible in your methods.
Your self-care routine may not be perfect.
But…
Progress is always better than perfection.
A great way to make sure you implement self-care into your daily routine is to keep a list of self-care ideas.
Self-Care Ideas:
- Yoga
- Dance
- Face Mask
- Meditate
- Journaling
- Read a book
- Create a vision board
- Declutter your home
- Call an old friend
- Try a new recipe
- Take a walk in the park
The days that you have more time choose activities that take longer. The days you have limited time, go with quicker activities.
The most important thing to remember is that no matter how much time you have, you make time every day for self-care activities.
You want to make it a habit so it becomes second nature for you.
Final Thoughts
For a long time, I didn’t practice self-care. I didn’t think it mattered.
But, I was so wrong!
I have become a better person physically, mentally, and spiritually by just simply taking care of myself.
Making myself an everyday priority.
I started off slowly and started implementing different activities every day into my daily routine.
I just want you to know that…
Self-care is a necessity in life for your mind, body, and soul.
If you are just starting out with self-care or struggling to get back into implementing self-care into your daily routine.
Just take it slow.
Start to implement activities one by one.
Always find time to take care of yourself no matter what.
A daily self-care routine will bring you happiness, relaxation, personal growth, and peace into your life.

Great tips! I never really thought about eating right as self-care but it really is. One thing I practice is meditating and it makes a huge difference in my day. I have this app called headspace and sometimes I just do it for a minute or two and it makes a huge difference in my overall mood and patience!
Michelle says
Hey Ruby! I love meditating too, I agree it makes such a difference even if it for a very short time. Headspace is such a good app. Thanks for sharing and reading! ?

Ooh, I definitely agree with scheduling and setting a reminder. While blogging day and night, I sometimes forget to eat as well!! So I’ve started implementing mandatory breaks where I don’t do anything for an hour related to blogging because I know I can do it 24/7 if allowed. Thanks for sharing – Josie xxx
Michelle says
Blogging such takes up all our time lol. I love your idea of an hour break to do nothing related to blogging, I need to try that! Thanks for sharing!!
Darby says
These are great tips! It really is about being intentional with your time about caring for yourself. Because I spend a lot of time behind a computer, after 20 minutes in front of the screen I take a 20 minute break. I think I’ll start implementing some of these self care ideas during those breaks now!
Michelle says
Thank you Darby! That is a smart thing you do. Sitting all day behind the computer can definitely take a toll on you.

YES!!!
This is so important! Self-care is so much more than spa days. Sometimes it’s planning your meals for the week, or making a dentist appointment.
I like to think of it like this:
Treat yourself like your child. Take your time to do all those things you do for them. When you make appointments for them, make appointments for you.
And it’s so so so okay to take a break when you’re at your limit. Your stress isn’t helping any one, so take that break! 🙂
Michelle says
Exactly Beth Ann! You are right on point!

All great suggestions. Meditating has been a game changer over the past few years. For the past year and half, I’ve been doing cold showers as well. I know most people think I’m crazy but I cannot recommend it enough.

I loved this article. I too being an entrepreneur tend to push taking care of myself into the background. But I am learning to take the time, especially in the morning, to do just that. Self-care is sooo important. Thank you for writing this!!!

Thank you for sharing! I feel like my mindset towards self-care was always something I would do 1x a week. When I thought about practicing self-care every day, it made me feel selfish. It made me feel like I would be catering to myself too much. (Crazy right?! I mean, how can you care for yourself too much?) I really enjoyed the tip about setting aside 10 minutes a day. 10 minutes is neither too long nor too short. I’m sure I can incorporate 10 minutes of self-care into my everyday routine.
Michelle says
Hey Rese! It sounds crazy but I know exactly what you mean!! I saw this quote on Instagram a while back so I always remind myself that: self-care is not selfish. you cannot serve from an empty vessel. So, just remember you are worthy! I agree 10 minutes is better than nothing!! ?
Shannon says
I have just started the journey of self care. I am learning to say no more often and trying to remember to take much needed breaks at work and at home. It really is important to take care of yourself now so that you don’t wear yourself out later. Great tips and thanks for sharing!

YES, Shannon! I love that you are learning to say no and taking control of yourself and your life! ❤️❤️

Thanks for the virtual kick in the butt. I’m really good with some items of self care (I journal every morning, workout most days, write gratitude lists), but I’ve gotten REALLY bad at eating healthy during these crazy times.
Michelle says
? my pleasure Becky! I love how you practice self-care by journaling and gratitude lists, they are such life changers!
Gillian says
It is so important to take the time out for yourself but sometimes it is the hardest thing to do!!! Your point about scheduling is so important. Making the space in the busy day or week is one of the biggest issues!
Michelle says
Hey Gillian! I agree it can be so hard but try just 5-10 minutes a day somewhere and then you may start finding more time in your busy schedule. Hope the scheduling helps!

This is a nice read and great reminders. I love the “don’t over complicate it”. I think those of us in this kind of “business” tend to cover complicate things. And to me, self-care is good so you can turn that care to others….and so its about me but really not. And just doing it simply is a great message. Thanks. I am enjoying your posts.
Michelle says
I agree Beth, sometimes we make it harder for ourselves than we need to. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reading! ❤️
