Self-care is often thought of as “me time,” but that doesn’t mean you have to do it all. Hanging out with the right people can deliver that same peace of mind while improving your relationships.
Here are some nourishing activities to help you and your friends plan the ultimate self-care day.
17 Nourishing Activities for a Self-Care Day With Friends
1. Catch a Movie
Watching a movie is one of the simplest yet most enjoyable activities you can arrange with friends. All you have to do is check what’s in theaters or what’s coming soon, pick a title, and get tickets. Have a vote on what to watch, or maybe even reserve the whole day to go to multiple showings.
2. Bake Scones for Afternoon Tea
Fewer things are better than afternoon tea with the girls. Bake scones from scratch to add some fun to the day. Make traditional English scones, which are similar to American biscuits, since you can enjoy both with butter, jam or cream. Prepare a tea station on the side, or have some coffee ready for the caffeine fiends.
3. Build Vision Boards Together
A vision board helps you visualize your future goals. Round up your friends to make the process more exciting. You can go the old-fashioned route of cutting out inspirational pics from magazines or browsing the internet to print them together. Have a short presentation at the end of the night where each person gets to explain their board.
4. Paint Portraits
Show off your artsy side by having a portrait painting session together. You can all do self-portraits for a bit of self-reflection, or make a drawing of one another that each person can have as a keepsake. Just remember to bring enough canvases and art supplies for all the art you plan to do.
5. Sing Karaoke
Belt out all your emotions in a karaoke room with your friends. Singing can reduce stress and slow your heart rate, especially when surrounded by others. Plus, you can all take a trip down memory lane by queueing up songs that you used to play during your childhood and teenage years. Get multiple microphones ready!
6. Find a Cozy Game Together
If you have girl gamers in your friend group, consider arranging a game night. Look for cozy couch games you can project onto the television and play together. A nice board game can also be great to slow down the pace and chat in between turns or rounds. With the right group, competitive games like UNO and Monopoly can turn up the energy.
7. Hike a Mountain
Friend groups that live actively would love to hike a mountain together. Being surrounded by nature can help you forget about trivial matters. You also get to enjoy a fantastic view at the end of it. Remember to pack essentials like water, snacks and portable chargers.
8. Head to the Beach
Maybe instead of touching grass, you need to touch the sea. Head out for a beach day and enjoy the water with your best friends. Try to get there as early as possible to find a nice spot to set up your chairs, blankets and umbrellas. Plus, you can skip the traffic and spend as much time as possible enjoying water activities.
9. Schedule Wine Wednesday
Sometimes, self-care is about simply chit-chatting with the girls about what’s going on in everyone’s lives. Shop for a bottle of red and get your favorite wine glasses out. Bring out the coziest blankets and let the night begin.
10. Put on Makeup Together
Makeup application can be soothing, and doing it with your friend adds an extra layer of fun. You could even swap makeup styles to break out of your usual routine or opt to put cosmetics on each other. Just remember to use your own brushes to maintain hygiene.
11. Do Skin Care Sessions
Friends who put their makeup on together remove their makeup together. Get out your favorite skin care products or pick up some new face masks for a fun, rejuvenating skin care session. You can even share some skin care knowledge. For example, certain moisturizers may contain ingredients that make skin more sensitive to sunlight, so plan to apply these at nighttime and use sunscreen in the morning instead.
12. Book a Nail Salon Appointment
Manicures or pedicures are so relaxing, and getting them with friends is a great, indulgent experience. Book a group appointment at your favorite salon and get ready for an afternoon of relaxation. You could also plan to get matching nail colors or designs.
13. Plan a Staycation
Consider planning a staycation with the girls to just lounge in a comfy space. Hotels are ideal for a plush space and a little pool moment. Meanwhile, cabins provide the perfect nature retreat and offer some peace.
14. Have a Potluck Picnic
Flex your cooking skills in a potluck with your friends. Ensure you’re bringing enough food for everyone, and discuss any allergies or dietary restrictions, as well as which dishes everyone is bringing to avoid duplicates. On the day, bring a blanket and a basket to set up everything in a park. Arrange things aesthetically so you can take photos before feasting.
15. Attend a Spin Class
Stationary bikes and upbeat music are all you need for an engaging group exercise session. Cycling can help improve mental health and concentration by promoting present moment awareness. Book a class that’s blasting your favorite tunes to have the most enjoyable experience possible.
16. Go on a Road Trip
While self-care road trips often center around alone time, it can actually be enjoyable when you have your friends along for the ride, too. Plot your favorite destinations and remember to bring enough road snacks. You can also make a schedule to switch who’s going in the driver’s seat to keep everyone’s energy levels up.
17. Order In and Binge a Show
Want to catch up on a favorite show or start a new one with the girls? Plan a binge-watching weekend and order your favorite takeout. To keep the fun going, turn it into a sleepover and have everyone bring their coziest pajamas.
Rejuvenate with Company
Every group of friends will find different activities the most relaxing, so consult with yours about what they’d enjoy the most. After a bit of planning and scheduling it in the calendar, you can all have some well-deserved rest.
