When you think about running a successful business, you probably think about the strategy, risk-taking, and systems that are involved.
However, did you know mindfulness is also important in business?
Mindfulness means that you are consciously aware of what is going on. You are living in the present.
You can do this through many different mindfulness techniques such as breathwork, meditation, journaling, yoga, and so much more.
Running a soul-led business is not easy. Sometimes it’s easier to “follow the money”, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are doing the right things for yourself.
Practicing mindfulness can lead to the business of your dreams.
Here is why mindfulness is important in business.
Mindfulness helps you live in the present and not dwell on the past
As a human being, it’s easy to get hung up on past mistakes and experiences.
The truth is, you are bound to make mistakes—especially in business. It’s inevitable. No one is perfect, and business is all about continuously learning from your mistakes and growing.
When you practice mindfulness, you live in the present. This is important in business because you have to be able to make decisions in real-time without worrying about something that happened in the past.
It makes you more self-aware
Entrepreneurs tend to work really hard. As Lori Greiner said, “Entrepreneurs are the only people who will work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40 hours a week”. It’s true!
Have you ever found yourself sitting at your desk, typing away, not realizing it’s very late in the evening?
We love what we do, so much so that we can accidentally work ourselves to the point of burnout.
When you incorporate mindfulness in your business, you become more self-aware. You are able to recognize the signs that you might need to slow down or take a break. This is an important skill to have as you continue to grow your business.

It lowers your stress levels
Reduced stress is a huge benefit of mindfulness.
Let’s face it—business can be stressful. There are lots of decisions to be made, outsourcing to be done, and sometimes there just are not enough hours in the day for your lengthy to-do list.
How much easier would business be without all of the constant stress?
Mindfulness techniques help you become more present, calm, and lower your stress levels.
No matter which technique you practice, you really can’t go wrong.
Problem-solving becomes easier for you
Business is full of problem-solving.
You might have to pivot your content or strategy based on current events.
Your audience might be asking for a service you never considered offering before.
A launch might not take off as you hoped, and you might have to develop another offer.
Mindfulness helps your problem-solving skills by providing you with a clearer head.
You are able to focus more and come up with a solution based on what you feel is best instead of something you pulled out of thin air because you were stressed.
It enables you to have more empathy for others
When you are able to slow down, you will have more empathy for the people around you.
You will better understand your team, their needs, and their thought process, and you will be able to make stronger connections with them, which will lead to a more inclusive and fun work environment.
You won’t get so bogged down by the little details
The small details can so often hold you up.
Have you ever wrestled with the name of a program for weeks before ever moving forward with creating it?
Have you put off outsourcing crucial tasks because you don’t know how to write a job description?
We have all experienced the feeling of being bogged down by the little details.
When you are able to be more mindful, you figure out those little details as they pop up instead of allowing them to hold you back.
It boosts your creativity
Sometimes there is so much going on in our minds that it blocks the flow of creativity.
When you are able to practice mindfulness and live in the present, creativity flows more easily.
You are moving at a more relaxed pace instead of a stressful and rushed one, and that allows you to come up with new ideas and solutions to problems.
Creativity can be a blessing in business.
Mindfulness reduces the risk of burnout
As we talked about earlier, burnout is a huge problem in the entrepreneurship world.
Business owners treat their business like their babies and will do anything to help them, even if it means working way too much overtime and abandoning sleep.
When you make mindfulness a priority in your business, you automatically set boundaries that will prevent you from hitting burnout.
You might set work hours or require vacations for your team members.
You will take the needed time for rest and take better care of yourself.
It will ensure you run your business with your heart, and not just with your head
Business needs strategy, roadmaps, and frameworks, but that isn’t what it’s all about.
Chances are, you started your business because you were passionate about something. You wanted to help someone. You saw a problem and wanted to solve it.
Somewhere along the way, maybe you lost that passion. Maybe you got so sucked up into following the money or implementing the right strategies that you stopped leading with your heart.
Unfortunately, that happens.
The good news is, that problem can be solved!
Mindfulness brings your heart back into your business. It allows you to continue running your business with your heart, just as you did in the beginning.
Final Thoughts
Making mindfulness a priority in your business will help it grow in so many different ways.
When people better themselves as individuals, they become better teammates and leaders.
All of these points hopefully sway you to practice mindfulness in your business.
The world needs what you have to offer —just be sure to run your business and make decisions that are aligned for you.
I hope you take this information to heart and make mindfulness an important part of your business!
