5 Wellness Tips to Stay Healthy Even When You’re Super Busy
Life gets busy quickly, especially when you are working hard to make your dreams come true. If you feel like the days are over in the blink of an eye, you are not alone.
Regardless of how busy you are, your health should always be a priority.
Taking care of ourselves is a must, but it can be challenging to balance it all. If you are struggling to make time for yourself, this article is for you.
Here are five simple tips to stay healthy, even when you’re super busy.
Wellness Tips to Stay Healthy when busy
1. Carry around a large water bottle
Specialists recommend that women drink about 11 cups of water per day, while men should have 16.
But who takes the time to drink 11 glasses of water when they are busy running around every day? The hours go by quickly, and suddenly you realize that it is 5 PM, and your last sip of water was at 9 AM.
However, staying hydrated should be on top of your priority list. It has many health benefits:
- Prevention and treatment of headaches
- Joint lubrification
- Better skin health
- Improved digestion
- Good kidney health
- Improved physical endurance
Staying hydrated is always important, but even more so when you are a busy, hard-working person.
That’s because hydration is closely related to energy levels and cognitive functions.
Dehydration levels of as little as 1-3% already impair brain performance, decrease memory and reduce concentration. If you need to focus for long periods, it is easy to see why you’d want to keep up with your water intake.
The solution?
Get a large water bottle, and carry it around with you.
Some bottles are large enough to fit your daily requirement of water. They are on the bigger side, but the advantage is that you won’t have to take time to fill them up.
Having a water bottle right by your side will make you more accountable, and you will be less likely to forget to drink.
If you are willing to spend a little more, you can buy a water bottle that lights up regularly to remind you it’s time to take a sip.
Staying hydrated is essential for overall health, and sometimes, additional measures are needed to ensure optimal hydration and nutrient intake. 2. Dedicate one day a week to meal planning and prepping
Cooking a delicious, healthy, homemade meal every night of the week is not realistic if you are busy. Fast-food and frozen meals are an attractive alternative to cooking when you come home exhausted from a long workday.
Meal planning is helpful because you only have to do it once, and you are good to go for the week.
People traditionally meal prep on Sundays, but any day of the week is good.
You can meal prep easy, on-the-go breakfasts, like bliss balls, muffins, fruit salads, or overnight oats.
If you like smoothies, you can prep smoothie bags. Simply put all your smoothie ingredients in a freezer bag. In the morning, put them in the blender, add some milk or water, and you’ll have a delicious smoothie within minutes.
Some fun main meal ideas to prep include jar salads, soups, curries, and burrito bowls. These meals keep for a while in the fridge and taste good even if they are not freshly made.
If you are not a fan of prepping meals, try family-style meal prep! Instead of making meals, you prep food items. For example, make a batch of roasted vegetables, sweet potato mash, tofu, and pasta salad. During the week, you can mix and match these items to introduce a little variety to your meals.
3. Find alternative ways to stay active
Physical activity is beneficial for the body and the mind.
It reduces the risk of suffering from many conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular and bone diseases, hypertension, depression, and anxiety.
It also simply feels good to move and take care of your body.
Going to the gym can be time-consuming, especially if it is far from your home or your place of work. Fortunately, the gym is not the only way to practice physical activity.
If you are really busy, why not find ways to incorporate exercise into your daily activities? Why not bike to work every day? Ditch the elevator, and take the stairs. Try to walk instead of taking the car to do your errands.
If you prefer to dedicate time to exercise only, do an activity that gives you the most bang for your buck. For example, spinning is very demanding, and most classes are only 30 or 40 minutes long, so you can be done with the whole thing within an hour.
4. Take five minutes to journal every morning
We’ve discussed a lot about physical health so far, but taking care of your mental health is just as important.
Journaling consists in writing down your thoughts, feelings, goals, aspirations, or anything else that you feel you need to write about.
It is a great tool to improve and maintain your mental health.
Some spend an hour journaling every day, but as little as five minutes is enough to enjoy its benefits.
I suggest you do it in the morning as it helps set your intentions for the day, which can be helpful to keep you focused and productive.
However, journaling at night can also be a great way to wind down after a long, busy day.
If journaling is new to you, you can get a five-minute journal to guide you through it. It has questions you can answer within five minutes.
5. Know when to take a break
This last tip is probably the hardest: know when to stop.
Being busy is great; it means you have many projects and are working towards achieving your goals.
However, it is also essential to recognize when you are getting at the end of your rope. If this happens, take a day off, preferably more, to rest and practice self-care.
It is easy to feel guilty for resting, especially when you have so much on your plate.
However, you cannot pour from an empty cup.
To be the best version of yourself and do your best work, you must feel fit, physically and mentally.
So, let go of the guilt, and take that day off when you need to.
