Sunday is the perfect day of the week to get your life organized. Friday and Saturday are for fun, Monday is a bit dreadful for some, but Sunday… that’s for planning your upcoming week and for a refreshing reset routine.
If you are new to Sunday reset routines then you might not know what I’m talking about. However, I’m sure you already have your own Sunday reset routine without even knowing it!
We all get into habits and routines. Think about what you do on Sundays. Do you have certain tasks you do? Are there errands you only run on Sundays?
If you are looking for ways to feel more prepared and refreshed for the week ahead, keep reading!
Why do you need to do a Sunday reset?
Simply put, you need a Sunday reset routine to make sure you are ready for the week ahead.
“Ready” will be different for everyone. Some people feel ready after meal prepping, while others feel ready after cleaning the whole house, packing lunch, running errands, and more! You decide what needs to happen on Sunday in order to feel prepared and relaxed.
Benefits of a Sunday Reset Routine
If you have ever felt the “Sunday scaries” then you probably already know the benefits of a reset routine. However, there are a lot more benefits than you might assume!
It can increase your productivity
Not only can a Sunday reset make you more productive on Sunday, but it can also set you up for a more productive week! By doing a reset you are making sure all the unnecessary stressors are gone!
It can help you sleep better
Stress is a major contributing factor to lack of sleep. How could you possibly get a good night’s sleep when you are worried about the week to come?
By doing a Sunday reset you are making sure all those stressful tasks are taken care of. You don’t need to worry about how you will clean the kitchen and do the laundry before work tomorrow because it’s already done!
You’ll have more time to rest
You know how during the week there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do? It can feel pretty depressing, really.
If you spend part of the day on Sunday getting some things done and prepped for the week, you will have more time to rest after work! Want to read more books? You’ll have time. Want to have a bath every night? You sure can!
Refreshing things to do during your Sunday reset
Now, there are really endless amounts of things you could do during your Sunday reset routine. It depends mostly on your lifestyle and the things you need to get done!
As I mentioned before, everyone is different and requires different things. However, it’s important to add things that you find relaxing or refreshing. Who wants to just run all the boring errands or do all the housework no one wants to do? That wouldn’t be much fun and wouldn’t really make you feel relaxed or refreshed for the new week.
Sunday reset necessities
Here are a few things you might NEED to do during your Sunday reset routine:
– Laundry
– Dishes
– Clean the bathroom
– Buy groceries
– Take the garbage/ recycling out
– Wash your sheets
– Vacuum the house
– Empty your pantry
– And many more…
Again, everyone’s to-do list will vary depending on your lifestyle!
While these things might not be fun, they are necessary. And even though they aren’t the most exciting tasks, they can make you feel a lot better. Having a messy space can literally cause clutter in your mind. So getting the house in order can do wonders for your mental health and overall stress levels.
Refreshing Sunday reset ideas
So with all the boring and annoying tasks you need to do, it would be nice to make sure there are some things you are looking forward to as well. Things that will fill your cup!
1 – Sleep in
Give yourself one day that you can sleep in and relax! This might mean waking up without an alarm or it could be an hour later than your normal wake-up time!
Let yourself get that extra rest and allow your body to heal from the weeks’ stress before jumping right back in.
2 – Move your body
A great way to feel refreshed is to get movement in. Whether it’s a walk around the block or a full-on workout, as long as you are moving that’s all that matters.
3 – Treat yourself to a yummy drink
Fill your cup by literally filling your cup! Make something yummy at home or go to your local coffee shop. A warm cup of coffee really has a way of making you feel rested and refreshed. Plus, who doesn’t need a treat now and then? Make it part of your Sunday reset routine so you always have something to look forward to.
4 – Restock things in your home
Nothing feels better than knowing everything you need is in your house! Take a few minutes each Sunday during your reset routine to restock your coffee pods, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry pods, etc. It may seem small but it really gives you that feeling of a fresh start!
5 – Positive affirmations
Positive affirmations are wonderful to add to any routine because the more you say positive things to yourself, the more likely you will truly believe it! Reset your mind by focusing on positive things about yourself or your life. Try saying things like:
– I am grateful for the life I have
– I choose to be happy
– My possibilities are endless
– This will be a good week
You can really say whatever you’d like! Repeat your affirmation a few times in the mirror when you wake up or before you go to bed!
6 – Try a new recipe
A lot of people meal prep on Sundays because they find it helpful to have lunches and other meals already prepared. If you want to add meal prepping to your Sunday reset routine, go ahead! However, if that isn’t for you, maybe try adding in a new home-cooked meal on Sunday for dinner!
Look in a recipe book or check out recipes online (I always love Half-Baked Harvest recipes). This is a great way to try new things and also nourish your body for the week to come. You might even have leftovers so you don’t need to worry about lunch on Monday!
In summary
Creating your own Sunday reset routine doesn’t need to be hard. Start with the tasks that you NEED to do. Try not to make the day super full and boring though. Sprinkle in other things that you find refreshing and rejuvenating so you are set up for the week ahead.
If you want you could even create a Sunday reset checklist so each week you know what needs to get done and you won’t forget all the things that make you happy and relaxed. Let’s be real, sometimes those things get pushed to the side because other things seem more important but they really aren’t!
Take care of yourself every single day but if you have to pick one day, pick Sunday during your Sunday reset routine!
