Spring is a lovely signal that warmer weather is just around the corner. When the weather gets nicer and blooms pop up everywhere, you may want to spend even more time outside — and it might inspire you to make changes in your life, too. Here are a few things you can do to improve your mental and physical health and help your home reflect the new beginnings during springtime.
1. Step Outdoors
Nature is inherently relaxing and can help you feel like you’re living a healthier life simply by slowing down and disconnecting from the internet. The world is out there, waiting for you to stop and smell the roses. Plus, spending time outside will give you a dose of Vitamin D, which can help you fight against illnesses and improves bone health. Try to get out in the sun each day and you’ll start to feel new as your health gradually improves. Remember to wear sunscreen!
2. Reset Your New Year’s Resolutions
Spring is a time for new beginnings, just like the beginning of the year. Now that you’re almost into the second quarter of your year, it’s time to look back at any New Year’s resolutions you set. Have you stuck to them throughout these months? If not, consider recommitting to them. Though you may be a few months behind on your original goal, it’s still worth pursuing. Remind yourself why you wanted to start in the first place and rekindle that passion.
3. Redecorate for the Season
People typically go all-out for the winter holidays, but fewer decorate in the spring. If decorations bring you joy and you have enough time to dedicate to them, consider setting out decor for the most colorful season of the year.
You can add pastel throw pillows to brighten up your neutral-toned couch instead of buying new furniture. Think sunny yellow, blush pink or lilac for spring. Brighten up the large things you already have so you’ll only need to purchase small items for the season.
Change your curtains or do something else to brighten your home after the cold winter. Try adding fresh flowers to your house to bring the pleasant smell of nature indoors. You may just need a small, new thing to help you feel refreshed and ready for spring.
4. Volunteer for a Cause
Now that the weather is warming up, you can volunteer for a cause you feel passionate about. For example, you could volunteer at an animal shelter and walk the dogs. If you have some spare time, find somewhere local and give back to the community. You never know the change it could make in your environment or in you.
If volunteering doesn’t work for you, consider donating monthly to a cause you care about. Every dollar helps and if you can spare the money, giving back can make you feel good about yourself and work toward the future you want to see. It can set the foundation for healthy habits in the coming months.
5. Commit to Self-Care
You need to take care of yourself to avoid burnout. Self-care is for everyone, so you should aim to prioritize yourself this season. One simple way to take care of yourself is to meet up with your friends, who can make you crack a smile and decrease your stress on even the toughest of days. By taking care of yourself regularly, you’ll lower your anxiety and might even see your immune system improve.
6. Start a New Healthy Habit
One of the best ways to welcome spring is to start a new healthy habit that will transform your life. Choose a practice that means something to you. For example, you might choose to exercise more or move intentionally, celebrating what your body can do. Alternatively, you can cook more and nourish your body with wholesome foods you create rather than spending too much at restaurants or on meal delivery services. Whichever habits you choose, you’ll see the benefits of a step toward a healthier life.

7. Make a Spring Cleaning Schedule
Springtime is the best time for cleaning, as you can banish the stale winter air and welcome the warmer weather. Try to make a cleaning schedule to help you get through all your spring cleaning chores. Make sure to sanitize things as you go. You should wash anything food touches with soap and water and sanitize the surface with a bleach and water mixture to eliminate any pathogens.
8. Take Inventory With Yourself
The first months of the year can be difficult. You should be checking in with yourself often, but sometimes, life gets busy and you forget to prioritize yourself. Use springtime as an excuse to take inventory with yourself.
Where have you been neglecting yourself physically, emotionally or spiritually in the last few months? Knowing what to prioritize can help you decide what to do next. Plus, it can help you avoid the dreaded symptoms of burnout, which could take a while to recover from.
9. Take a Walk Every Day
Sometimes, all you need to do to remind yourself how small your problems are is walk outside. The huge trees and chirping birds and insects can remind you of how massive the world is — and you’re only one person. Still, you can change the world if you want to.
Walking briskly can help decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease and more steps per day overall lowers your risk of death. You can make your daily walk into a workout by picking up the pace. Walking outside can change your life, whether you stroll through nature or power walk your way to a healthier heart.
10. Find Your Purpose
There’s no better time than the season of new beginnings to learn more about yourself and what you were meant to do. Find new things to try. Pick up a hobby. With enough research, you’ll find something that makes you feel fulfilled — hopefully, it’s something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your days.
Utilize spring to find your purpose. It might look different at various times in your life, but you should still pursue it. This change may warrant a career shift or some adjustments at home. You may want to go back to school for something you’re passionate about or take the next step in buying a home. Strive to find your purpose to help align your goals.
Make Spring Your New Favorite Season
Spring is the first full season you experience as part of a new year. Using it to measure your goals is a great idea — you can have three months of uninterrupted goal-tracking progress without worrying about accommodating the holidays. Spring is a great time to become who you’ve always wanted to be, especially if you couldn’t in the first part of the year. Make some healthy changes and soon, you won’t even be able to recognize the old you.
