Autumn Self-Care Tips to Embrace the Change of Season
It’s that time of the year! The weather is starting to cool off; the leaves are beginning to turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red. The greatest time of year is upon us!
The start of a new season can sometimes bring a change in routine.
If you’re finding yourself struggling with the changing of the seasons, these Autumn self-care ideas may help you add that balance back into your life.
Fall Self-Care Ideas
1. Eat a Balanced Diet
When autumn begins, the sun begins setting sooner, our sunny days become rainy days, and eventually, the clocks turn back an hour. It can cause a bit of seasonal depression.
We’re getting less sunlight, taking to the indoors to stay warm and dry, and that can sometimes cause a dip in our serotonin levels.
Eating a balanced diet, rich in nutrients that boost serotonin production can help ward off depression; foods such as spinach, salmon, nuts, and seeds.
Steering clear of excess caffeine and alcohol consumption can also help keep those feel-good hormones up!
2. Get Plenty of Sleep
Life is so fast-paced, some days it can feel like we’re barely keeping our heads above the water.
Stress can have physiological, and psychological effects; from digestive issues, headaches, chest pains, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, and even getting sick more often.
Making sure you get at least seven hours of sleep a night, probably seems impossible with your schedule. It is so important that you prioritize yourself and ensure that you’re getting a good night’s sleep.
Getting plenty of sleep helps you maintain a healthy weight, boosts your immunity, lowers your risk for serious health problems such as heart disease and diabetes, and can reduce stress levels. This dentist who does high-quality implants in Chattanooga also adds that continuous sleep deprivation can cause gum diseases.
To help you fall asleep quicker, you can begin to turn down the lights in your home to help melatonin production. You can also turn off electronics, read a book, meditate, or take a warm shower or bath.
3. Make a Fall Bucket List
Who doesn’t love a good fall bucket list?
There is nothing better than when the season changes and you get to venture out and do the things you’ve been waiting for all year long.
Autumn brings all kinds of amazing things to do and having a list of things to look forward to, can help boost your mood.
Here are some great ideas for a fall bucket list:
• Go to a pumpkin patch
• Find a local farmer’s market
• Take a hike and embrace the beauty of nature that autumn brings
• Bake your favorite fall dessert: pumpkin bread, apple crisp, sweet potato pie, YUM!
• Cozy up on the couch with some tea and have a Halloween movie marathon
4. Start a Gratitude Journal
In a world that focuses so much on the negative, it can be hard to stop and remind ourselves to be grateful for all the blessings in our lives.
Starting a gratitude journal is just one super easy way to add positivity to your life.
When you focus on things you’re grateful for, you can begin to have greater self-esteem, be less anxious, and the overall emotional shift your life can make is enough to make you want to start one right now.
5. Meditate Outdoors
Don’t you just love walking outside in the mornings in the fall, when that cool, crisp air hits your face?
It really wakes you up in ways a regular cup of joe can’t.
Take it a step further and take that morning yoga routine or meditation session outside.
Complete your sun salutation, as the sun peaks over the trees and the rays begin to reach your face.
Feel the warmth of the sun caress you, as if to say “Hello beautiful, I hope you have a wonderful day.”
Final Thoughts
There are so many ways to take care of your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Prioritizing yourself, even one thing daily can have an outstanding impact on your life.
Which Autumn self-care are you going to give a try this year?
