When I started my blogging business, I had no idea that so many little things went into running a blog, from writing blog posts, networking, website maintenance, learning new software, email marketing, and so much more.
I’ll be honest, I felt overwhelmed.
Like how I am going to find time to fit all of this in on top of running another business and my personal life.
I wanted to stay consistent and efficient too.
I needed to create a system to make it easier.
That is when I did some research and came across batching.
Batching is when you group similar tasks together and work on them all at once instead of switching between different tasks.
This is a very focused time on a specific group of tasks so that you can get them all done and not have to work on them for a while.
When it comes to batching you don’t only have to use it in business but you can use it in your personal life as well.
Here are some batching ideas to be productive and get more done efficiently.
Grocery shopping
You may be wondering how can I batch grocery shopping?
Well, do you ever go grocery shopping one day out of the week then have to go back during the week because you forgot something?
Start by planning your meals for the week in advance, make a list, and hit up all the stores you need to in one day.
This will save you time throughout the week.
Meal Prepping
During the week, it may get tough to make meals because you don’t have the time and then you end up getting fast food or eating a box of crackers you have in your cabinet.
A good way to help is to batch your meal prep for the week.
If you don’t like to meal prep because maybe you are someone who doesn’t like leftovers then you can food prep.
Food prep is when you get all the different ingredients ready for the meal and just cook in throughout the week, whenever you are ready.
This saves time from cutting up ingredients, measuring, and more.
Emails
Instead of checking your emails throughout the day or every time you get a new email, designate a set time during the day where all you do is attend to your emails.
Use this time to read, reply, and write new emails. Also, to clean out your email box and keep it organized.
Administrative Work
Some people do this differently, some will have an admin day while others may have an admin hour, which is totally up to your personal and/or your business needs.
You can use this time to send invoices, organize your computer, do bookkeeping, pay bills, and so much more.
Networking
If you are a blogger, influencer, or business owner then you know the importance of networking.
It is important to network so you can build your brand and grow your business.
If you are an introvert, networking can be energy draining.
So, why not batch your networking time.
This can be something like spending 30 minutes interacting on Facebook groups.
Have a list of brands you want to collaborate with and reach out to all of them at once.
Or even meeting people for coffee all in one day.

Content Planning
If you are a blogger, Youtuber, or you host a podcast, you know that content is king!
Are you the type of person that waits until the last minute to figure out what topic you are going to create content around?
Well, one of my favorite things to batch lately is my content.
I started by doing 2 weeks at a time and now I do one month at a time.
Some people are able to plan their content every quarter (I’m not there yet).
So, when you batch your content you are basically brainstorming topics that you are going to create content around and putting them into certain days or weeks.
This makes it easier so you are not scrambling around trying to figure out what to post about.
It is a great way to stay consistent and show up for your audience.
Writing
As mentioned above if you have to create content then writing comes along with it whether you are writing blog posts, social media captions, a book, descriptions, or anything else.
Sometimes it can be tough to get into the writing mood, but once you do feel inspired, take that time to write a few blog posts, plan a week of social media captions, or even descriptions for your other social platforms.
Don’t worry you can always batch edit later if needed, just use this batched time to get all your ideas on to paper.
Taking photos
If your business requires a lot of photos, then batching will be your savior.
Batching pictures will save you time and help you to be efficient in the long run.
You can take a day and take all the pictures you need especially when the light is good outside.
Schedule and Automate Your Social Media and Pinterest
Social media is time-consuming.
After you batch your captions, another batching step you can do is schedule all your content on apps like Later or Planoly.
If you are using Pinterest to grow your business then I recommend Tailwind. I recently scheduled a whole month of pins and felt so relieved like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders (well at least for the next few weeks).
Batching and scheduling your social media content saves you from remembering to post online and it automates it for you so you don’t have to stress and worry about it.
Videos/Podcasts
It takes a lot of work to film a video for Youtube or a course you are creating and even record a podcast episode.
So, why not just batch your videos in one day that way it frees up your time to do other things like spending time with your loved ones or enjoying a hobby that you have.
Reviewing Your Stats
It is important to review your stats often but it isn’t productive or efficient to stare at it every day.
Spend some time once a month or once a week to go through all your analytics and see what is working and what isn’t.
Doing this will help you to test out ideas and create a strategy based on how things are doing.
Figuring out your clothes for the week
If you spend a lot of time trying to figure out what to wear in the mornings then this one is for you.
Spend some time at the beginning of the week to decide what you are going to wear throughout the week and lay them out ahead of time.
By doing this, you are saving time and you can start your days without thinking too much about the options you have.
Final Thoughts
As you can see lots of tasks whether for business or your personal life can be batched instead of doing them multiple times throughout the day, week, or month.
Batching can save you time, help you to be efficient, and stay consistent.

These are all great tips. When I was an avid professional blogger with my first blog, I did a lot of batching. I literally had set days for when I did things related to the blog. It worked so well! I haven’t gotten into that routine yet since starting this new blog and working from home. However, it’s been on my mind more lately to do it. So, I think I’m going to have to get a new system in place. Thank you for these reminders of how well it works.

Since starting a blog, I’ve been trying to do batching actually. I came across the concept recently when researching productivity. It’s hard to find large blocks of time with three little ones at home, but I’m able to batch a few things. Grocery list and meal planning for the week is one. Grocery shopping is one. Emails are another! Really wish I could get social media and Pinterest batched, as well as content planning, but I’m just not there yet.

ohh I really need to batch emails. I try not to jump every time I get an email notification, but it’s hard.
I’m a bit obsessed with checking my website analytics and new email subscribers.
I also have small kids at home and find it challenging to work on something for a few hours straight uninterrupted, but things like only checking emails certain times of day will help.
Michelle says
From experience, I was the same way when it came to emails. Designating certain times has helped so much because honestly half the time it is junk emails that just waste time.

This is really interesting! I’m saving this post and trying this out.

Aw yay! Hope it helps Natalie!
