Routines are a great way to add a little bit of structure to your day.
Getting up early and making to-do lists are just some of the ways to achieve your goals.
When it comes to wellness and living a healthy, balanced lifestyle, sometimes our routines fall short.
Having a wellness routine is a big component of living a balanced life. Don’t let them fall by the wayside!
Wellness routines are meant to be flexible.
They shouldn’t induce stress if you aren’t able to achieve them.
Choosing things that make you feel good, both in the body and mind, is a foolproof way to ensure you accomplish your wellness routines daily. Choose things you want to do, not things you are forcing yourself to do because of preconceived notions. If you don’t like going to your HIIT class, don’t go, try another activity until you find the one that you love.
By adding a few simple wellness-focused additions to your daily routine you’ll be on track for a more balanced lifestyle.
Choose a few, choose one, choose whatever fits into your schedule.
Incorporate them throughout the day, throughout the week, or whenever you have time. These are meant to be flexible, not a checklist of everything you absolutely must do, but a few suggestions of what you could do.
Wellness Routine Ideas
Movement. Moving your body can be as simple as going for a walk or vacuuming the house or as much as a 60-minute strength fitness class. Whatever you choose, there is no wrong answer. Adding a little bit of movement into your daily routine will do wonders for your mind and body.
Tip: If your schedule allows, exercising in the morning is a great way to set the tone for the rest of your day.
Meal Plan. Setting yourself up for success by making healthy, cravable meals ahead of time will help you achieve not only your health goals but your financial ones too. Whether you have the time to prepare for the entire week, or the night before, by making healthy meals ahead of time you’ll find yourself saving time and money.
Tip: Make foods you actually enjoy! If you prepare a bunch of bland salads you won’t want them and will 1. end up wasting food and 2. end up spending money on takeout.
Downtime. Give yourself a break from technology each night. Put your phone in the other room and spend time with your loved ones. Implementing the ‘no phone rule’ before bedtime can completely change your sleeping habits for the better. By not sleeping with your phone right next to the bed, you won’t check it when you wake up in the middle of the night and ruining your sleep cycle.
Tip: Place your phone at a distance where you would have to physically stand up to answer it.
Self Care. Incorporating some form of self-care into your life is a great way to add to your wellness routine. A nightly moisturizing ritual, a weekly face mask, or a monthly manicure, anything that you qualify as pampering yourself – do it. You can even start looking for Invisalign in Boynton Beach or one near you if you have misaligned teeth. Splurge on yourself once in a while. When you invest in yourself, you’re investing in your well-being.
Tip: Start small by incorporating one self-care routine at a time. TJ Maxx and Trader Joe’s sell some great and affordable face masks!
Stay Hydrated. How many times have you heard drinking water is beneficial to your health? Well, it’s true! The rule of thumb is to drink half an ounce to one ounce of water for each pound you weigh. The health benefits of water are exponential and this is a super simple way to add to your wellness routine. Start small by drinking more water than you normally would and then gradually work yourself up to the recommended amount.
Tip: Get one of those time-tracking water bottles from Amazon so you can keep yourself accountable throughout the day.
What are the Health Benefits of a Wellness Routine?
Routines promote health and wellness in an organized manner. Here are a few ways a wellness routine can improve your overall health and well-being:
Reduced Stress Levels. Having a routine removes any sense of doubt or worry that you won’t accomplish your tasks. Setting a routine sets you up for success and makes sure your goals will be completed.
Improved Sleep. Stress leads to poor sleep, therefore if you reduce your stress levels by implementing a wellness routine, ultimately the result will be better sleep. Additionally, by implementing the ‘no phone rule’ wellness habit, your sleep quality could also greatly benefit.
Healthier Eating Habits. Pre-planning meals and scheduled grocery shopping can help reduce the frequency in which you reach for an unhealthy snack. Lack of time or lack of planning often results in a fast food option. By planning ahead, you will find yourself eating healthier out of habit!
Increased Efficiency. As you begin to implement a wellness routine, it will start to become more like second nature to you and you won’t think twice about doing it. You’ll find that by having a routine you’re accomplishing everything you set out to do. You’ll become the master of your own routine in no time!
Healthy Body. Your physical body suffers from the lack of a routine. By adding simple movement into your wellness routine, your body will thank you. So many studies have shown that daily walks are all the exercise one needs. Just start walking and see how it makes you feel. Walks are not only great for your body but a great way to help clear your mind!
Healthy Mind. Because a routine helps to provide structure and eliminate a lot of uncertainties, stress levels reduce, minds stop racing, and sleep quality improves, all factors that help improve your daily thoughts. A clear head is a happy and healthy mind.
How to Get Started with a Wellness Routine
Now that you have a few wellness activities in mind and are aware of the benefits of a wellness routine, here is the biggest tip for implementing these new habits.
Start Small. Add one activity to your routine at a time. It’s best to introduce new habits one by one so that you don’t get overwhelmed. By incorporating one element gradually, your brain will start to recognize it as a habit and it will come naturally to you in your everyday life.
It’s called a wellness routine for a reason, it’s designed to promote your overall well-being.
If at any point in your wellness journey something isn’t working for you, reassess and choose another wellness activity that will bring you joy.
Always do what’s best for you. And in the end, remember being a creature of habit is a good thing!

Love this! People talk about their wellness routines as if they are magic, but that can be intimidating if you are starting to implement one. I like the tip to start slow and think of it as an experiment with trial and error to figure out what works for you best! Thanks for the great tips!

It’s nice that you pointed out how one big component of living a balanced life is having a wellness routine. I asked for some health advice from a doctor the other day and he mentioned the value of overall wellness. Good health is very important, so I’ll probably try stopping by a wellness center later.
